Transport or communications in South Iceland are really good.
There are three fishing harbours in South Iceland; Þorlákshöfn, Vestmannaeyjar and Höfn. In addition there is Landeyjahöfn that services as ferry harbour for Vestmannaeyjar.
Most roads in South Iceland are paved. There are though some gravel roads and pavings. The connection between areas are good and the roads and routes are getting better every year. It is easy for people to travel between popular areas on the south coast whether by car, in busses or tourist coaches. There are several single-lane bridges which can though cause accidents if drivers are not careful.
You can fly to Vestmannaeyjar and Höfn in scheduled flights and there are several flights per week to each destination both during summertime and wintertime. In addition there are numerous small airports where you can land a private plane or helicopter.
The public bus company, Strætó, drives twice a day all week from Reykjavik all the way to Hofn which is the furthest eastern part of the region. There are bus trips from Reykjavik to the town Selfoss and Flúðir at least once a day every day of the week. Tourist coaches drive daily to the most popular tourist destinations in the south every day of the week.
South Iceland is special in the way that various routes are around that part of the country, and it also lays so close to Reykjavik capital area and the largest international airport in Iceland.
